~ The Anglican Association of Christian Girls ~
The Girls' Friendly Society is a worldwide, uniformed organisation for girls affiliated to the Anglican Church. We enjoy games, crafts, cookery, floral art, singing, Bible study and lots of fun!
In Aghalee we meet in the Parish Hall, Soldierstown Road on Monday evenings between 7 and 8.30pm from September to April, and all girls aged 4 years and over are welcome.
Throughout the year we have various extra activities, for example, we take part in competitions with other GFS branches, have a Christmas outing and join up with the Boys' Brigade for our annual Parents' Evening.
In 2005, we had a big 'after Christmas' party in January, with the Boys' Brigade and Sunday School pupils and we all spent the May Day Bank Holiday weekend at the Kilbroney Centre, Rostrever, Co. Down for a fun break. A BBQ and Games Evening is planned for the summer.
This year we learned: how to make a healthy packed lunch; about safety in the home, garden, on the farm and near water; how to make hair accessories, a pencil top, a party mask, design wrapping paper and special occasion cards.
Our favourite game is 'Port and Starboard', as it uses up lots of energy, but we also like to play 'Hidden Tiger' and 'Musical Statues' amongst others.
We re-open for the new season on Monday 12 September 2005.
